New Tool Car Arrives at Redondo

November 21 was an exciting morning for the SBRHS. After acquiring this car in 2019, working tirelessly to prepare it for shipment from its storage location at Beech Grove, IN, shipping it some 2,500 miles over active mainlines this past summer...our new tool car, SBRX 1161, safety arrived at the 3751 worksite on this cool, fall morning. Despite the steam crew's main focus still being completing the locomotive's ongoing boiler inspection, that didn't stop them from taking a break from their work to watch the new car glide on and off the turntable, carefully moved by Amtrak crews. The SBRHS would like to thank CSX, BNSF and Amtrak for their phenomenal work to swiftly and safely move this car, along with the society's other two, new support railcars, from the Midwest to California this year. We would also like to extend an equally large THANK YOU to our generous supporters and outside donors would made the acquisition, shipment and future outfitting of this car possible. The steam crew looks forward to beginning the job of tearing down SBRX 1161 and outfitting it as a modern day, tool car that will travel with 3751 in support of its future operations.

Donations are still needed to complete the fundraising needed to outfit this car! To make a donation of any size, large or small, please consider visiting out donation page to learn how you can help.
