It was an exciting, spring day in Downtown Los Angeles as 3751's brand new tubes and flues were moved inside the locomotive's storage compound where they will be prepared for installation. Unique to this 1472 inspection, the locomotive's entire boiler was emptied of ALL 275+ tubes and flues rather than the required 25% or so that are normally cut out for access to the interior of the boiler shell for ultrasonic readings to be taken.
As this moving of the tubes and flues took place, another section of the crew was continuing to prepare the front and rear tube sheets for the inserting of the new material in the coming weeks.
