(11.28.2011): 3751 Holiday Display
In collaboration with and the support of local Amtrak personnel, 3751 will be put on display the weekend of December 10 and 11 at Los Angeles Union Station in conjunction with Amtrak's 40th Anniversary Exhibit Train (
www.amtrak40th.com). 3751 will be all dressed up for the occassion with holiday garlands and wreaths and Santa may even stop by to pay a visit.

A platform will be provided for all to peek into the cab. For safety reasons and to reduce overcrowding, individual or group tours inside the cab will be provided during specific time periods each hour and for a suggested donation. A group size of 5 will be the maximum. Availability will be on a first come basis only and you can sign up for an available time period at the SBRHS merchandise table, which will be setup near the locomotive. So come on by.

We hope to see you there!

(10.06.2011): 3751 to Pull Excursion to Arizona
The SBRHS is collaborating with the Central Coast Railway Club and Amtrak to operate a special excursion train to Arizona in May of 2012 to help celebrate the States’ Centennial year. The train is being designated "The Grand Canyon Limited" and will include trips to Williams and Phoenix. While in Williams, additional plans are in the works to double head with the former CB&Q 4960 2-8-2 steam locomotive on the Grand Canyon Railroad between Williams and the South Rim in a one day roundtrip.

This trip is sponsored by the Central Coast Railway Club. For all information regarding ticket sales please visit their website at www.goldenstaterails.com.

Plans call for photo run-bys to be made on most days, freight traffic and timing permitting. This 11 day steam excursion will be operated under contract with Amtrak, BNSF and the Arizona & California Railroads. We want to stress to everyone that final written approval and signed contracts are still pending and updates will be announced on this website.

Until the contracts are finalized, the final day by day itinerary may still being adjusted. However, the preliminary schedule calls for this excursion train to operate Los Angeles-Barstow-Cadiz-Parker via Cajon Pass. From Parker, the train will operate to Matthie, then on to Williams with a possible run up to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and return with 4960. Departing from Williams, 3751 will lead the train south to Phoenix for celebrations related to the Arizona Centennial. From Phoenix, 3751 will operate a day roundtrip up to Matthie for local folks before returning to Los Angeles via Parker.

(03.04.2011): Rock Island Trip Suspension Update
After studying a number of options and their impacts to host railroads, our crews, costs and the realities of operational planning, the SBRHS and other event partners have sadly determined that any type of movement of 3751 from Los Angeles to Rock Island for Train Festival 2011 will not be feasible. The SBRHS looks forward to working with the Train Festival organizers to participate other possible events in the future. We wish to thank the BNSF Railway for considering different options. We are disappointed that a feasible route and schedule could not be obtained but are understanding in the outcome.

(12.20.2010): 3751 Trip to Train Festival 2011 Suspended
Train Festival 2011 organizers, California Zephyr Railcar Charters and the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society regret to announce the operation on Santa Fe steam locomotive #3751 to Rock Island, IL in July of 2011 has been suspended.

When planning of Train Festival 2011 began several months ago, Train Festival organizers shared their proposal of steam locomotives and their proposed movements with high-ranking officials at BNSF Railway. Provided that they were to be Amtrak trains, it was communicated that BNSF would 'likely' approve the requests, including that of the ATSF 3751, from Los Angeles to Rock Island and return. In the intervening time, circumstances have changed, and BNSF is now projecting greatly increased traffic volumes this summer on their Transcon corridor. The Train Festival trips would use the Transcon between Albuquerque and Los Angeles.

Steam specials are highly consumptive of management time, and of course attract hundreds, sometimes thousands, of railfans, which in turn requires significant efforts on the part of the railroad's police. The 3751 trip would have had us on the property for 18 days, during the time when traffic volumes would be at or near their peak.

For this reason, BNSF has reconsidered their position, and respectfully declined the proposed move of ATSF 3751 via the Transcon corridor to Train Festival 2011.

Other options are being explored to bring the #3751 East. In the meantime other excursions are being worked on and proposed for Train Festival 2011. They will be announced on the website www.trainfestival2011.com when they have received approval.

Anyone that had purchased a ticket to ride behind the #3751 may get a FULL refund, hassle free. Just email your request to tickets@trainfestival2011.com and a refund will be given. Please provide the name the order was under in your request.
