Support The SBHRS Past Issues Of The 'Crew Car'

This page contains links and descriptions to some of our past issues of the Crew Car - the SBRHS's high quality journal produced three times a year and mailed to our supporters. The Crew Car has entertaining railroading stories, historical information, and interviews with real live railroaders who ran 3751 as well as other steam locomotives (not limited to the Santa Fe Railway). It also contains historical data about 3751, current stories about other organizations in the process of restoring other Santa Fe Locomotives, and vital information to our supporters about upcoming events.

If you wish to obtain an actual copy of a specific issue you can do so on the Souvenir & Gift page for a minimal donation.

June 2004 - An Afternoon with Bill King is the main article in this issue and chronicles the cross training the Santa Fe instilled in it's mechanical staff, written by Dave Crammer. Volunteer Don Sheets recounts his knowledge of the Sweetest Smelling Wreck, and is topped off with a short about the donation of a very useful electric cart to the SBRHS by Ben Bellman.

June 2003 - A great interview with ex-Santa Fe employee and Navy man, Jack Whitmeyer and his experiences aboard the USS Canberra following the attack on Pearl Harbor. There is also an article about a steam locomotive folio that was donated to the organization, and a quick note from Amtrak President David Gunn.

Also a real life steam chasing vacation involving our own Bill Garner and Stan Kistler up to the Wasatch in Utah, to make sound recordings and photographs of the big Union Pacific locomotives still in operation in 1958. Check out 'Who Is Jill Miller?' It's a great story about real railroaders of the late 1940's and early 1950's.

Volume 19

February 2001 - Contains the continuing saga about Santa Fe 4-8-4 2921 in Modesto. BNSF engineer Hank Graham documents the efforts of both the SBRHS and WARM to stabilize the decay of the engine - and to get it out of the park and into a more suitable environment. Stan Kistler provides great reading and images about the installation of 2921 into the park in Modesto, circa July 1960.
