The 3751 will steam to San Pedro for the Port Of Los Angeles’ Centennial Rail Festival from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Saturday April 21, 2007. Private varnish “Pony Express”, “Overland Trail”, “Pacific Sands” and “Tioga Pass” will also be part of the consist along with an Amtrak car. The event is taking place through the cooperation of Amtrak, Stan Garner, the Hatricks, Norm Orfall, Operation Lifesaver, Pacific Harbor Line, the Port of Los Angeles, SBRHS, and Doug Spinn. The train will be displayed in the PHL San Pedro Yard located between Harbor Blvd. and Sampson Way at 6th Street. In addition to the 3751, there will be model train displays, food and activities for kids. The nearby Red Car line will also be providing free rides during the event. With the LA Maritime Museum and Ports O’Call Village across the street, this promises to be a great family event.

To kick off the festival, SBRHS will host a fundraiser in the San Pedro Yard on Friday, April 20 from 7:00 to 10:00 PM featuring the fabulous Esquires Big Band and the 3751. Come dance the night away under the stars to the big band sounds from the 1940s on a floor next to the locomotive; view a presentation on the history of the Los Angeles Harbor; and bid on a plethora of fantastic silent auction items. Vehicles from the era and staff from the nearby Ft. MacArthur museum in period attire will add to the ambiance. A suggested donation of $5 at the entrance would be appreciated.

Preceding the weekend festivities will be another Educational Outreach Program field trip event for 5th grade students. No visitors will be allowed in the area between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM while students are present due to safety and security concerns.

The locomotive will depart San Pedro in grand style at high noon on Sunday, April 22 heading back to Los Angeles via the Alameda Corridor.

Current SBRHS Supporters are needed as volunteers for merchandise sales, security personnel and docents for both the public open house and weekday school tours.
